Gross Profit vs Net Profit

Understand the difference between profit on a sale and profit after running the business.

Gross profit

Gross profit is revenue minus the direct cost of producing or delivering what was sold.

Net profit

Net profit goes further by deducting operating expenses and other applicable costs.

Why it matters

A product can have a healthy gross margin while the overall business still loses money if overhead is too high.
